Sílvia de Almeida is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon. She is the director of the Interdisciplinary Research Center in Education (EDUNOVA.ISPA) and vice-coordinator of the PhD program in Education.

She has taught courses on data analysis, sociology of education, curriculum, educational policies, and multiculturalism in undergraduate Sociology programs, master’s programs in teaching, the Master’s program in Education Studies, the Master’s program in Teaching Portuguese as a Second and Foreign Language, and the PhD program in Education at FCSH.

She has coordinated and participated in research projects in the areas of sociology of education, curriculum development, curriculum policies, school segregation, and inclusion of immigrant students. She recently received the “Research Mobility Awards 2024-2025” from the “Young European Research Universities Network” (YERUN). in partnership with Brunel University London, on the topic: Migrant teachers in Portugal and England: research, policy and practice.

She is the author of several articles in national and international journals and collaborated, between 2014-2017, on studies with the National Education Council. In 2018, she co-authored a book for the State Department of Education, entitled Curriculum Management: Towards the Autonomy of Schools and Teachers.
